The guide to safe buildings JSCA performance-based seismic design
Abstract: Japanese building standards law only stipulates the minimum level of seismic load to protect human life, which is often not enough to meet the needs of maintaining building functions and business continuity after an earthquake. If the building's seismic performance is different, even if it encounters the same earthquake, the state of the building after the earthquake will be different. In order to meet the diverse needs of the owners, it is necessary to communicate with the owners to clarify the corresponding seismic performance level and carry out performance-based design. This article shows the relationship between the earthquake scale and the building damage state, the building damage state after the earthquake, and the process of performance-based design. Finally, it provides a performance menu table and a performance diagnosis table for the reference of designers.
